The Weikko "Snap" Baitholder has been developed to be as easy to use as possible, but as we know, baitfish trolling is full of endless experimentation and testing. On this page we have compiled instructions for using the Weikko and tried and tested tips, which we will update as soon as we get back on the water to test it more!

  • 01 Attachment to the fishing line

Open the baitholder by opening the neck clip and thread the holder's tail pin into the piece of rubber tubing on the fishing line. The recommended thickness of the line is 0.45–0.60mm.

  • 02 Choosing the right slot

Place the line at the desired slot. Press the bait into the spikes and snap the holder closed. The recommended bait size is 10-15cm.

  • 03 Tuning the swimming style

Attach the hooks to the desired position on the bait and start creating your favorite swimming style. The basic swim comes with the bait almost straight and the hook is from the tail of the bait from above or below.

  • Swimming variations

Weikko has three ready-made slots. The slot closest to the nose makes a small swim tube and the most breaks.

The back slot gives a wider, smoother barrel swim. Wide swimming can withstand the most speed. It's worth trying a speed of 5km/h sometimes - it might surprise you. If it doesn't surprise you, at least the scenery will change nicely.

The slot next to the hinge at the bottom of the hood can also be used as a slot, causing the baitholder to rotate in the opposite direction in a small circle.

Different hookings can add a lot of nuance to swimming. There is a video further down the page showing different variations.

  • Attractants and tuning

Feel free to try out flashers, dodgers and other attractants. It's also worth trying new slots, because a new hole is always tempting.

During warm water, the combination of a "action disc" has yielded good results, especially with chrome-based Weikko.

When used with a action disc, it is a good idea to thread the line through the hole on the side of the baitholder, as the disc adds traction to the holder and it is possible for it to come loose from the rubber hose alone.

The online store also sells 10 unpainted chrome-based and clear blanks per pack if you want to paint your own custom colors.

  • Keep Weikko in good condition

If you want to make sure that Weikko doesn't get lost in the battle, you can thread the line firmly through the hole on the side of the holder. This is best done when you have a smoking hot salmon machine that doesn't need to be changed.

We recommend using the rubber hose that comes with the product for the tap - it is intentionally stiffer than the silicone hose so that the product stays in place better.

Always open the baitholder using the tab on the neck clip. The holder opens easily from the clip.

You can remove the baitholder from the fishing line after fishing or straighten the line by removing it from the slot. This way the line stays straight and doesn't get tangled on the next trip. This way you ensure that the swimming styles remain the same.
